MySpace: Losing Public Interest?

No Space for MySpace ?

For the past week we have been on the topic of competing software and social networks, however there have been no mention of the once popular MySpace.
Unfortunately MySpace hasn’t had a great year. With competitive sharks such as Twitter and Facebook, Myspace has been left struggling in the deep end. Once a very popular hub for the music and entertainment community, MySpace seems to be loosing its entertainment edge. Though MySpace clings to a marginal lead over few social networks, sadly trails behind significant others.

According to Hitwise General Manager, the entertainment network used to provide over 35% of worldwide traffic to websites in the Entertainment-Multimedia category – that would be around 2006. Its contribution to music and band websites specifically was over 10% in 2007, a reflection of its strength at the time. Now those numbers have significantly decreased and continue on that downward spiral.

There have been raised questions, Is it that the music career interest is slowly decreasing, where people are now following alternative interest that does not require the use of this network or is it simply because this network have seen better days and has now run its course.

Some public views however are optimistic where they still are convinced that its not over for the musical social network and seem avid that the battle is not over.
