Yes, its been over a year since the last podcast.
It came down to time and focus and not necessarily in the order!

Podcasts should match the central focus of your organisation. Or, they simply be internally orientated as a great communication tool.

We’ve re-thought the purpose of the Corporate Podcasting Show and have renamed / re-branded it to be inline with the main focus of Knowledge Hemispheres. Its almost as if we moved to a new era. We’re not saying the Podcasting is no longer valid! We believe it still is, but now forms part of a bigger story of new media, i.e: content on the move.

Mobile Apps have to be the biggest shift in recent times. Therefore, we’re going to deliver a podcast that is orientated towards the value of mobile apps and mobile content. Podcasting clearly fits into the latter.

The latest show, Episode 30 is now available:

This week we’re benefits of mobile content and Apps for business.
We hope you enjoy it!

We’ve read that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has begun recording and publishing his own podcast internally at Microsoft. It is published to the Microsoft Academy Mobile community, an internal social computing initiative aimed at creating a knowledge sharing environment.
Good to hear that the community driven site encourages Microsoft employees to create both audio and video podcasts and videocasts-Â content runs on SharePoint Server 2007 and reaches out to over 70,000 Microsoft employees.

This suggests that there is hope for us who have been excited about the potential of podcasting as a great communication vehicle for corporations. Cynics may suggest that this gives the choice to ignore yet another posting. More optimistic people will take the attitude that it is another form of outreach for corporation executives.

At Knowledge Hemispheres we have always advocated the power to communicate to clients, for example, by featuring common best practice service elements or innovation in the use of products/services (both internally and externally, inc: Partner organisations).

It would be interesting to see if the take-up of podcasting is greater amongst technical organisations. If so, it could be that technical set-up could be faster. However, in all cases it is not about the technology that provides capability but more about the meaning behind the message and the care taken in its construct to make a difference.

Blogs in Audio Format?

Normally considered the written current news, Blogs are methods of relaying information through means of regular commentary, and is also considered a type of website, but have you considered the possibilities of having a blog solely in the form of mp3?

Embedded audio can normally be found on websites of all sorts, as well as on blogs which can be an addition link on a website keeping daily readers up to date with the current affairs of the organization or the outside world.

With the possibility of incorporating an all audio-blog there are limitless things that can be done that the written text cannot accomplish. Such as language tones i.e. Sarcasm and many other expressions that are captured perfectly and clearly in the tone of voice might be missed in ordinary text.

The blogs are stored in an mp3 format and there is the additional downloadable option that makes the information easier to share as well as transfer on to any portable device such as mp3 device or your phone, as well as the audio-bog can be transferred onto a hard copy such as a CD. So this does not limit you to the use of the internet to access the blog’s information.

Just like any international website there is also the options of having various languages to accommodate different persons, in audio the use of voice-over plays in perfectly, where the use of audio voice-over techniques could facilitate many different languages.

There are however some disadvantages where this method of blogging may not be disable- friendly and might require some facility to cater to the disabled.

This month (August ’09) -In this special episode, we are very pleased to unveil our new and improved site to the awaiting public - it’s been a long time coming but now the much needed revamp is complete.

We’ve been busy putting the final touches to the site, it has been put off on a few occasions, just to ensure it is more consumer friendly and has a much greater accessibility.

The website has been redesigned to make it easier to use and understand the services that we offer, how you can use these services to advance your business or organization and how we can help you in doing this.

The new site our team have been working on now includes our four main areas of expertise which our business engages in, Audio, Video, e-Learning and Web Development and Training. Under each main heading we further branch off into sub-sections, giving a detailed outline of the different types of features that each main topic will contain (ie Audio – Audio Podcast), and how we can help you in developing each area for your organization according to your specification.

We’d love to hear what you think about the new site – so any and all comments are welcome.

Who is the “Podfather” ?

There has been an ongoing interesting question in “cyber world” that I recently picked up while browsing through various pages.

Who invented podcasting? Never thought to ask, but now that the question has been raised, Lets address the issue.
The idea of providing episodic media content, was developed initially by two persons, Dave Winer and Adam Curry. Both are said to have worked together on the concept and the programming to follow. However due to personal issues the two drifted and there is a now ongoing debate as to who owns the right of being named the “Podfather”, colleagues in both camps have taken sides, and there seems to be a line drawn right in the middle of both. There is also the speculation of data being given over the internet, as to who should be the rightful owner.

So I guess this will still remain an unsolved mystery.

However what is not a mystery is the ingenious idea of what Podcasting really is, what is has done and the future in store for such a creative New media technology.

According to KHL:

Consider Pocasting as a free subscription to a speciality audio magazine.

In the busy world we live in it is getting harder for business to ensure its messages are heard. Modern consumers, especially the young, have become adept at filtering out advertising, making traditional methods less and less effective. The advantage of a podcast is it can be listened to however the user likes.

Whether or not Podcasting is claimed by the rightful father, there is no doubt about it that by using this technology there are numerous media developments and engaging communication that can be incorporated into your website, blogs, business/organization and even home. This not only includes audio Podcasts but also video Podcasts!

Tweet Security?

For such a popular social security network site you would think the security would be on an iron grid lock, however this is not the case as there have been several cases of hacking and stolen identities being reported on the site. Quiet recently where the security documents of the site were stolen and published an admin from twitter released a statement saying ‘..the publication of stolen documents is irresponsible and we absolutely did not give permission for these documents to be shared.’
We are forced to question for a social site that is so prestigiously known for their A-list members with the likes of President Obama, Oprah and now even Her Royal Highness the Queen being apart of the network, how can such a site be so easily hacked?

Accounts of several of these famous names were reportedly hacked or compromised repeatedly. It was reported that twitter admin documents were leaked revealing member’s valuable account information.
Though twitter has issued a formal statement stating that they “… are pursuing a path to address the harm caused by these actions and as noted yesterday, we’ve already reached out to the partners and individuals affected.”

It still leaves all their users to question, am I safe on twitter? Is my personal information, messages, numbers etc and the information of my network of friends safe? Can i really trust this site?

What however is certain is that the twitter security or admissions office probably needs a new plan of action on how their files are handled, stricter practices need to be put in place to ensure that privacy is maintained.

With a network of millions of users relaying different types of personal information that is thought to be over a secure mode of communication, this issue needs to be addressed as a top priority. This not only brings us to question the fallibility of twitter but also of other social network sites and how much information should be divulged to these ‘secure’ sites?

Read More here on Twitter Security Breach
