Although the video soundtrack to Viv’s new motion cover for the ipad sound like a something out of ‘Land of the Giants’ – NB You may not be old enough to remember this and BTW you can now buy a box set of the series- it shows you what is possible, i.e: to create some great engaging content.

The video shown above is the finished product.
NB The video below outlines the, ‘making of the video’ – NB beware of the bad language at the end.
Some of the camera’s used for this shoot are described here.

More importantly, with the ipad offering so much interactivity, these digital advancements are just the start of what could become a new art of expression.

However, at what cost?

The end product is certainly amazingly glossy and impressive and offers new promise to professional photographer and videographers. NB It is the cover that has been developed.

However, it is likely that smaller magazines will not be able to afford this but over-time just like augmented reality equipment became cheaper, it will become more accessible. KHL Interactive offer i-pad magazine conversion services. One of the advantages is the ability to include overlays that can launch video content – this could be an alternative, as video could be launched at the beginning or embedded within the publication.

The other issue is who will bare the cost of such expensive shoots / content in the short-term? If the paywall model works then we could find chargeable premium editions, for example fashion magazines can cost  upwards of £5 per issue. Will an on-line digital version be supplemented by advertising revenues?

Veteran journalist Jon Snow at a recent (Early Sept ’09) at Institute of International and European Affairs’ event outlines his views on the impact of New Media.

It is certainly a fascinating insight from a well respected figure from the world of broadcasting.
Jon works for Channel 4 in the UK. He suggests that he straddles between stone-age and the digital age.

Interestingly the BBC have certainly embraced new innovations and have always been at the forefront of using social media to extend what I call ‘the public reach’ to information for our daily lives.

On a recent visit to the US I spoke with a journalist from KOMO 1000 in Seattle:

He described himself as a news gatherer. I had a great chat with him after he had just finished interviewing a group of Boeing executives. I asked him if he was podcasting. His reply was ‘Nah! We don’t do that anymore as none of our listeners were subscribing. I find it far more dynamic to simply record on my iphone 3GS and post directly to YouTube. Then our news service announced on the air that the latest associated new video can be viewed from our website’.

Interesting how content is now being gathered and sent out at the same time.

Customers today are more demanding and moving at a faster speed than before, this results in them wanting rapid and accurate responses to any enquires or any sort.

It would therefore come in handy if you could be on demand, after office hours. In such a competitive business environment being on call for customers whenever they have an enquiry would improve your business status, customer loyalty and your company’s reputation of quality customer service.

To access and respond to customers demands off office hours would require an increase in the necessity of a mobile workforce. To meet the needs of both businesses wanting to meet customer needs and customers seeking round the clock service, SAP and Research In Motion (RIM) have developed a mobile customer relationship management (CRM) application for the Blackberry.

The SAP CRM application uses Blackberry applications, such as e-mail, address book and calendar, to deliver mobile CRM data for sales people, customer services, field services and marketing.

Applications such as this benefits both the business and the customers, where the employees can meet the needs of customers on the go , whether outside the office or otherwise, boasting customer relations.

However though there are many positive impacts of having CRM application on your phone, which can help your business/ organisation to sky-rocket, there are also the negative drawbacks to having such an application. A very common disadvantage in having a CRM application on your phone may be, though you are available for customers out of the office, this may also cut into personal time which may cause a slight annoyance.

Especially in this currect financial climate, businesses need to hold on to the current customers that they have so that through them and the service provided they can attract new customers and build on a reliable business reputaion. Though small applications such as this can make a big different in the direction of a company and the reputation that it carries.

This month (August ’09) -In this special episode, we are very pleased to unveil our new and improved site to the awaiting public - it’s been a long time coming but now the much needed revamp is complete.

We’ve been busy putting the final touches to the site, it has been put off on a few occasions, just to ensure it is more consumer friendly and has a much greater accessibility.

The website has been redesigned to make it easier to use and understand the services that we offer, how you can use these services to advance your business or organization and how we can help you in doing this.

The new site our team have been working on now includes our four main areas of expertise which our business engages in, Audio, Video, e-Learning and Web Development and Training. Under each main heading we further branch off into sub-sections, giving a detailed outline of the different types of features that each main topic will contain (ie Audio – Audio Podcast), and how we can help you in developing each area for your organization according to your specification.

We’d love to hear what you think about the new site – so any and all comments are welcome.

Following The Three D’s

How to Develop good content, Get it Delivered in the right context and have it Distributed to all the right people?

New Media content development, delivery and distribution is often considered the hardest, most tactical approach to any type of development, especially for something as delicate as a developing organization. Content distribution today come in so many forms, RSS, Blogs, MMS, video publishing and the list goes on. The key however stated by some of the most successful companies is all in the wording. The familiar phrase comes to mind, ‘Less is More’.

It has been proven that less can be so much more when developing the right content, a sure marketing tactic that will be notably profitable. The less customers or future clients have to read and take in the better, if the content is factual, to the point and more importantly precise. Wasting time to hand over large amounts of documents to a prospective client to read only signals for an early exit.First impressions count, so the development of meaningful content is only the first but very important step in attracting and keeping clients.

The Delivery of the content is next and  comes hand in hand with the content development. Where technology and New media advancements have made it widely impossible to run out of delivery ideas. The delivery of the content is not to be confused with distribution! The delivery is simply put how the information is brought across to the public! With media such as video, audio and the age old text, there are many ways of manipulating the following to your advantage, i.e. video and audio presentations etc. Be creative! Remember attracting and keeping the attention of the client or customer is your primary aim.

Last but not least is the Distribution, this is the deal sealer. No one will ever hear about the wonders of your organization if there is no audience, or platform for your content to be seen. Here in comes the networking of your product and company. Think of and utilize all the available and most popular means of getting your content known, and what better way to get it seen if not by the world, more specifically the World Wide Web. This is where your social media skills should kick in, Facebook contacts, Twitter feeds, Video and Audio Podcasting, Website Development and Advertising. All have high success rates of interaction and marketing.

There is no exsuse all the right resources are avaliable so Get Started!

It is certainly interesting that so many ‘brand experts’ are emerging. Some of the latter appear to be developing a cottage industry in terms of referring each other. Good luck to them and maybe there is a market to advise people on using such tools.

I would be disturbed if conversations with such advisor’s were talking about what you can do with social tools rather than how you can use them with real evidence of impact on clients.

Anyway, here’s a list of best practice when dealing with Social Media tools.

When dealing with people online, engage in true conversations, albeit that tools such as Twitter can be linked to RSS.

Good to keep your updates ‘sweet’ and relevant to the network of people who are following you or even keen on the same subject areas, for example, if your network is focused on sports, you can always extend the conversation on related subjects such as nutrition.

Celebrate the successes of others. From a client perspective, you could, ‘big them up’! There is some mileage in when you champion for others, they might champion for you. NB This should not be done in a sycophantic way!

Engage and Interact. e,g: follow-up business conversations.

Don’t Broadcast. Instead, communicate related business stories and news.

Participating consistently builds a stronger on-line reputation for your company and boosts your presence within social media circles.

Sometimes I wonder who’s really writing celebrity blogs! Is it their PR agencies or ghost writers. It is worthwhile reconsidering dialogue with these people!

Consider your reputation. Consider what you are about to enter into Internet history before you respond to posts from other sites.

Understand what I call web dynamics, i.e: understand the behaviour of respondents on your various networks, for example, when are people most on-line and what subject areas do you get the most response from.

Communication is key, for example, audio and video blogging is great – However, poor production is easily off putting. In other words, sometimes short and smart communications is better. It is worth considering something called a ‘drip strategy’ ,i.e: planning the release of your knowledge.

There you go, lots of advice and it was all for free!

A content management system (CMS) is basically a computer application which is used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized fashion.

It has innumerable business benefits :

Makes the task of putting information on the Web much simpler

Supports the re-use of data by allowing the ready integration of data from diverse sources

Allowing information maintenance to become devolved but at the same time preserving central control.

Permitting some past state of the Web site to be re-created or restored.

To know more about CMS, let us look at the basic functions of CMS.

Figure: CMS Functions

The functions of CMSÂ can be divided into 4 categories:

Authoring, Workflow, Storage and Publishing

Authoring is the process by which many users can create Web content within a managed and authorised environment, whether it be lines of text, audio or video.

Storage is the placing of the above mentioned authored content into a central repository. There also prevails something known as “Versioning” of the content whereby the access conflicts between multiple authors cannot arise and also so that previous versions can be found and restored if required.

Publishing simply means delivering the stored content onto the internet so that everyone around the globe can view it.

Do remember – “A poor site can keep you hidden, mis-communicate your products and services and even frustrate your clients in terms of gaining access to key information about your products and services“…and that is what Knowledge Hemispheres Ltd. (www.kh-2.com) strongly believes in and makes every effort to elevate the web presence for its clients.
