It’s been years since blogging has been practised. However, recently it has been considered as an addicting fads. Many teenagers have resorted to blogging as an outlet for their emotions! Savvy marketers have discovered that blogging is one of the best Internet marketing methods that won’t cost you a cent.

Blogging for your Internet business is one surefire way to boost the visibility of your products and services. Here are a few ways to boost your internet advertising with the help of a blog:

Make your clients or customers abreast on your website’s alterations. Your new products and affiliate websites could also be announced through your blog. For example, a car dealer network (No, I’m not going to comment about recent recalls from a particular car company) could communicate the progress it is making on alterations(!) or special offers. For a sales force Business podcasting could inform sales reps / agents of special offers or even a motivational speech to urge the team on to achieve targets.

Keep track of your business objectives and plans through open writing. Your blog content can be easily stored through archives. What could be better than searchable information that could be easily accessed by anyone browsing the web, right?

Air your opinions, advice or reviews on specific services or products that are related to your business. Publishing is a very easy process with blogging.

Ensure that you respect your competitors by not slating them!

Include links that will fetch back links and subsequently improve your ranking on search engines. This could be better executed through putting well-written articles in your website. Affiliate links could also be included in your blog to earn more extra income.

Collect response through the ability of blogs to fetch comments from your blog readers. You can learn and improve your products and services through with the feedback from your readers.

Connect easily with other bloggers. When other bloggers notice that you have something good in your blog, they will put you in their favourite lists that will automatically link you to their blogs.

You can use your blogroll or front page link to help you ensure the latter.

Recently, I read that the content of your website should consist of at least 60% (in relation to) what you sell (services and products). Blogging should help you communicate more about your brand and value you can give

Get your clients involved by communicating case studies

In summary, communicating your business through a blog and corporate podcast can improve dialogue both internally (corporate/charity/organisation’s mission) and externally, to your clients getting a good feeling about your confidence to provide them with excellent service.

When creating a blog it is generally assumed that most people want their site to be a success. Now everybody will have different objectives for their individual sites of course but successful blogs are pretty much measured by the same standards. Most popular blogs can boost a strong subscriber base along with a continuous flow of fresh and new blog traffic. Another sign of a popular blog is the frequency with which visitors post comments on the site.

So what is it that stimulates the flow of incoming blog traffic, keeps these visitors returning and encourages their comments and interacting?

Here are the 5 major ‘components’ of a blog that helps breathe life into and keeps it popular.

Consistent Blog Posting

Make no mistake if you do not consistently post to your blog it will be as deserted as any beach in the middle of winter. Maintaining a regular pattern of blog posting will allow your readers to know what to expect or even if they can depend on you for any future updates. The more you post the greater the chance that you will be abler to develop a popular blog amongst the readers of your particular niche.

Quality Content

Now the first step is consistent blog posting but just as important is whether your updates will be of any interest to the readers. The quality of the content you add to your blog needs to be something visitors new and old appreciate enough to keep returning. Posting just anything will not ‘cut the mustard’ if you want people to keep coming back.

Keep your content relevant, thought provoking, informative, humorous or whatever it takes to keep the interest of your readers. Over the long term this is what makes for a popular blog.

Allow and Respond to Comments

Always remember your blog is a social community or you at least want your readers to feel that way. With that said it is absolutely mandatory that you allow comments on your site. If visitors do not have that option you have taken away the ‘spirit’ behind what a blog is all about. All you will have left is a ‘website’ that happens to be updated more frequently.

Along these lines when readers post comments take the time to look at them. They will tell you what is on the readers’ mind and can give you more direction as far as to what type content is most appealing to them. There will also be comments that may require your response therefore respond accordingly and help to foster an atmosphere where commenting is encouraged and people feel involved.

Appropriate Template

The template you choose should fit the mood you are trying to establish and the objectives you are trying to achieve.

If you are blogging for business your template should be more professional or at least reflect the business itself. On the other hand if your intentions are for fun your template needs to project that attitude or mood as well.

About You

Do not leave this page blank since it is your chance to introduce yourself to the visitors. Readers’ new and old readers are always interested in knowing something about the person whose work they are viewing. This also helps to breed a little more familiarity with visitors thereby giving the blog a more ‘comfortable’ feel.

Your bio should be brief of course and should contain things such as why you blog and any other information that may be relevant to the blog theme.

Adding a picture is also helpful unless you are currently a member of the witness protection program and if that is the case a suitable avatar will work just fine.

When creating a blog you will obviously want it to be successful since you will likely be investing your time and effort into it. As we mentioned previously most popular blogs have plenty of blog traffic along with visitors who post comments regularly. If you use traffic and commenting as a measure of a blogs success the 5 components we discussed above will help you get plenty of both. Now there may be other more subtle goals that you can target with your blog but having a broad popularity is always a good start.

r – add a comment

Subscribe to a Google Buzz account in a feed reader

Google Buzz’s search feature shows the latest public messages that match your query.

Some useful searches:

Hide Google Buzz counter

Google Buzz’s search feature shows the latest public messages that match your query.

Some useful searches:

author:@gmail.com – find all the messages written by a specific user (you can also use a partial name instead of an email address)

commenter:@gmail.com – find all the messages that have a comment from a specific user

has:photo, has:video, has:link – restricts the results to messages that include photos, videos or links (for example: vancouver has:photo)

source:flickr, source:twitter, source:reader- restricts the results to messages imported from Flickr, Twitter, Google Reader (for example: vancouver source:flickr)

View Google Buzz photos in a slideshow

When you upload photos to Google Buzz, they’re added to Picasa Web Albums. If you click on a thumbnail, Google Buzz will open a lightbox to help you quickly navigate between images. Unfortunately, there’s no option to view the images in a slideshow, but Picasa Web Albums has this feature and there’s a small link that opens the photo album. Click on “view all” and you can select the slideshow option, export photos using Picasa or print photos.

Blogging can be ideal to express your view point. In business it can be used to communicate key aspects of your corporations activity – also to help people visit you so that you can help instil confidence in your brand or purpose.

With regard to the latter, when you start writing your blog posts it is important that you find keywords that will make it easier for your target audience to locate your content! This can easily be done using free keyword research tools.

However, what is more important is that you do it right! There are certain rules you need to follow when optimizing your blog content!

Rule 1: Don’t Overdo It!

Although the search engines do use keywords, among other things, to decide how a page should rank they don’t just rank the page with the most keywords the highest. The people working on the algorithms the search engines use are actually quite clever and they realize that people will just try to take advantage of this. That’s why you need to go with a keyword density that is no higher than 2.5%!

Rule 2: Use Your Main Keyword As Close To The Beginning Of The Title Of Your Blog Post As Possible!

The title of your page is very important to the search engines. For that reason it is important to put your main keywords close to the beginning if the article.

Rule 3: Never Let Keywords Ruin Your Content!

It can be tempting to flood your blog post with keywords. Don’t!

Doing so will not only make the post unreadable, but as mentioned in rule 1 the search engines will pick up on it. As important as keywords are to get your content recognized you should never sacrifice the quality of your content. It will only come back and hit you like a boomerang!

Rule 4: Above All Else Focus On Quality!

We talked a bit about it in rule 3, however, the importance on quality cannot be exaggerated! It might be possible to lure first time visitors to low quality content, but in the long run your blog will be far better served by providing only the highest level of quality. This rule applies not only to blogging websites, but to all websites!

Rule 5: Don’t Overdo It!

This is exactly the same as rule 1, but it’s so important that it’s worth mentioning as many times as possible.

Finding keywords that will boost your blogs search engine rankings is something you should always do to increase your blogs business potential. However, do make sure that you don’t overdo it!

Blogs in Audio Format?

Normally considered the written current news, Blogs are methods of relaying information through means of regular commentary, and is also considered a type of website, but have you considered the possibilities of having a blog solely in the form of mp3?

Embedded audio can normally be found on websites of all sorts, as well as on blogs which can be an addition link on a website keeping daily readers up to date with the current affairs of the organization or the outside world.

With the possibility of incorporating an all audio-blog there are limitless things that can be done that the written text cannot accomplish. Such as language tones i.e. Sarcasm and many other expressions that are captured perfectly and clearly in the tone of voice might be missed in ordinary text.

The blogs are stored in an mp3 format and there is the additional downloadable option that makes the information easier to share as well as transfer on to any portable device such as mp3 device or your phone, as well as the audio-bog can be transferred onto a hard copy such as a CD. So this does not limit you to the use of the internet to access the blog’s information.

Just like any international website there is also the options of having various languages to accommodate different persons, in audio the use of voice-over plays in perfectly, where the use of audio voice-over techniques could facilitate many different languages.

There are however some disadvantages where this method of blogging may not be disable- friendly and might require some facility to cater to the disabled.

To read more on the process and various equipment and features used in audio-production Click Here.

Consider the possibilities for developing a bigger ipod touch / iphone.
From a new media perspective users could find easier access to YouTube and video podcasts.
The format for a Blog could be easily presented, the larger screen could help combined with the
an intuitive touch interface, especially for integrating digital devices.

Talk of an Apple Tablet PC came as early as 2007 from CNET. See:
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029450,49293967,00.htm

More recent news from http://www.i4u.com/article26033.html dated 24th July ’09.
In an article entitled: ‘Apple Tablet PC Coming’, Robert Evans the article author
states:

Huge news, Apple fans! There is finally information from a reliable source that Apple is finishing up work on its new tablet PC. This Apple-pad is the brainchild of Steve Jobs himself, and it’s just now coming out of an agonizing three year development cycle. Expect to see it in stores early 2010.

Apple’s new tablet will be a 10” touchscreen with 3G enabled and plenty of computing power. From what AppleInsider says, it sounds like this thing is basically going to be an iPod Touch with netbook level processing power and memory. And, since Steve Jobs is the man behind it, you know it’s going to be an extremely solid product the instant it’s released.

In a more recent article, as hot as two days back the rumor is that the unit maybe out by Christmas ’09 (article dated July 27th ’09).

We guess there are also other issues to consider:

Who will be the 3G carrier and will the deal be: Exclusive or Open?

What comes with it – Blue tooth would be useful – where is the functional spec today?

Could it be a great eBook reader too.

What GPS/ Maps application could it use

What kind of games will it support

What about accessibility

Practical portabilty/size/safety options will there be ???

Interactive music applications could be amazing

What interconnectivity options will be provided to realise a semantic way of connecting with home devices or even your music system!?

Will the introductory costs be good to ensure a pervasive inducing strategy

With regard to the latter, it would be great to have a practical, easy to integrate and cost effective unit to connect the world easily.

Living in such a media advanced world, media/technology is always evolving, upgrading and being reinvented. I must say I am a big fan of all three. Discovering new ways to reinvent media is always so mind blowing! It is thrilling to see how inventors bend and push the rules and boundaries of technology. Just when you think there is absolutely no way of them making a particular item any better than it already is ….voilà ! an upgrade is born.

Firstly, take for example, the USB Re-chargeable cell. I’ve not actually tried it myself but it is selling for approx £10.99.

Its associated online advertisement suggests that, ‘This NiMH AA cell can be used like a normal battery and can be recharged simply by plugging into a USB port.’

Well while scrolling through other new interesting gadgets of 2009, i recently found an upgrade to the X-box 360 which, bare in mind recently came out. It takes the idea of a Wii console but without the restrictions of the controls! How is this done ? Well the Project Natal, as it is called includes a camera, a motion sensor and a microphone, which are elements that will allow users to play by using their bodies and voices to control the Xbox 360. Interesting, no controls …no wires….no problem!

Think of the possibilities with technology like this.

It is certainly interesting that so many ‘brand experts’ are emerging. Some of the latter appear to be developing a cottage industry in terms of referring each other. Good luck to them and maybe there is a market to advise people on using such tools.

I would be disturbed if conversations with such advisor’s were talking about what you can do with social tools rather than how you can use them with real evidence of impact on clients.

Anyway, here’s a list of best practice when dealing with Social Media tools.

When dealing with people online, engage in true conversations, albeit that tools such as Twitter can be linked to RSS.

Good to keep your updates ‘sweet’ and relevant to the network of people who are following you or even keen on the same subject areas, for example, if your network is focused on sports, you can always extend the conversation on related subjects such as nutrition.

Celebrate the successes of others. From a client perspective, you could, ‘big them up’! There is some mileage in when you champion for others, they might champion for you. NB This should not be done in a sycophantic way!

Engage and Interact. e,g: follow-up business conversations.

Don’t Broadcast. Instead, communicate related business stories and news.

Participating consistently builds a stronger on-line reputation for your company and boosts your presence within social media circles.

Sometimes I wonder who’s really writing celebrity blogs! Is it their PR agencies or ghost writers. It is worthwhile reconsidering dialogue with these people!

Consider your reputation. Consider what you are about to enter into Internet history before you respond to posts from other sites.

Understand what I call web dynamics, i.e: understand the behaviour of respondents on your various networks, for example, when are people most on-line and what subject areas do you get the most response from.

Communication is key, for example, audio and video blogging is great – However, poor production is easily off putting. In other words, sometimes short and smart communications is better. It is worth considering something called a ‘drip strategy’ ,i.e: planning the release of your knowledge.

There you go, lots of advice and it was all for free!

Consider the launching of a new product or update.
In this case a sneak preview to Social Media is a cocktail party – out today.

Generically, how could you both buzz and potential clients using social networking?

The following blog is also available word-for-word as an embedded blog inside Amazon.com?
http://www.ignitesocialmedia.com/social-media-is-a-cocktail-party-sneak-peek-5/

What the post and its associated link to a Twitter / Tweet shows is the value of a social media mash-up.

e.g: The book is promoted indirectly through Twitter, blog and inside Amazon – great idea.
Now, how could we apply this.

You have lots of Twitter followers – organically developed and filtered!

Followers could be clients

Followers could be a partner network or distribution chain.

PR and promotional schedules are linked through pre-product launch blogs

Selective Twitter accounts raise the vibe on the story through interacting with the latter or simply through the authors contacts.

On the day of the product launch or update announcement, raise Tweets throughout the day on their progress.

Monitor, refine & respond to @replies

Consider linking to Social Median to create mashups

BTW The book looks good.

Bloggers power
One of the great things about blogging (a regular online journal that anyone can post in English a Weblog ) is that creativity and production is down to the individual. Interestingly, recently it was reported that China has released its own version of Wikipedia – (http://www.wikipedia.org the free online encyclopaedia that anyone can edit but is moderated by online volunteers). We already know that China has authorised a doctored version of Google from Google themselves.

In terms of the power of Blogging. Recently a viewer suggested that TV talk shows, new shows, news programmes, political commenting and newspapers in general have their favourites. The implication was that the same guests and self declared political spokespersons are repeatedly relied on to perform endless ‘chit chat’ between themselves – enjoying jokes and satirical narrative. Suddenly, we find the same experts and view-points emerging. The viewer suggested that a member of the public should be representative at such sessions. He also went as far as to suggest that when a member of the public is involved in asking direct questions it results in the most engaging television – back in the 1980s when a member of the public asked Margaret Thatcher about the exact nature of the situation when a British vessel sank the Argentinean Belgrano during the Falklands war with regard to the latter the debate about the exact situation at the time continues.

Many argue that the media does need a wake-up call. Although the profession of journalism is demanding in terms of working to tight deadlines and the challenge of producing engaging quality content In my view some aspects of the media are spoilt by favouritism, targeting, sensationalism and crudeness. Maybe media ownership, political siding or simply stereotyping has a lot to do with the problem. We have to admit that it is difficult for journalists and editors to balance the complexity of the world and how peoples values vary. However, a breach of human rights is wrong no matter where it occurs and often not enough rallying takes place to condemn it to drive change.

Recent online polls can help gather public opinion. However, how confident are we that a decision cannot be overridden? There is much talk of Citizen journalism and the power of blogging but we need to remember that we elect politicians on their stated manifestos. Or, maybe the problem is much deeper. I note that a number of political Bloggers are beginning to emerge I worry if these bloggers are plants by commercial media in a desperate attempt to encircle or capture this domain of public expression or movement and call it its own.

In addition, although Google have some amazing search solutions and tools, I really hope that the algorithms they have developed are truly impartial and fair.

I’m really impressed with the increasing number of bloggers as it shows that the diary is not dead and there is a compelling instinct to share thoughts and ideas. What is worrying is the emergence of being not discrete and over exposure i.e: The potential of lost innocence in a world where self expression is seen as important.

Press freedom is not the same as contributing effective / knowledgeable content. There is still a need to control blasphemous comments and insensitive commentary.

Maybe there is an opportunity to innovate in a world where the media have a structured route to broadcast on their megaphones. All we need to do is shout more and louder than before!

Blogging from a personal and corporate perspective can be a great way to champion change, it just requires the Internet to stay free.
